Dinner at Avenue Restaurant

Located on St James’s street in Piccadilly, Avenue restaurant opened in 1996 and has since relaunched and is now known for its high quality, Asian-inspired cuisine with a South American twist.

Walking into Avenue, the restaurant felt as glamourous as its location- very elegant and classic with its long bar, spacious dining area, beautiful chandeliers and art- focused décor.

Whilst waiting at the beautifully-designed bar, my guest had ordered an Old Fashioned. The bar staff recommended that he try the classic cocktail with rum as opposed to whisky- he claimed it was the best tasting Old Fashioned that he’d ever had. Already my first impressions of the restaurant were very positive.

We were ushered to our table by our friendly waiter Angelo, to a raised spot at the very back of the venue, with views looking out across the room. At our table we were poured a glass of Tabali Pedergoso Gran Reserva, a nice, light Viognier wine with aromas of citrus, orange peel, pears and peaches.

For starters we had white crab and black tortellini, with lobster and lemongrass essence- in my opinion it was one of the best starters I’ve ever had; the lobster bisque sauce was very light, flavoursome and complimented the tortellini and the fish extremely well.

For the main course, I chose the native lobster with smoked lime butter from the Robata Grill, this was very appealing and cooked to perfection. To accompany the lobster, I opted for a side of braised red cabbage, which was very sweet, giving the meal a delicious blend of flavours.

We selected the chocolate brownie for dessert, with creamy peanut butter ice-cream. This tasted amazing- the dessert had pieces of meringue as well as dark chocolate sauce on the side. The brownie itself was gooey, crunchy and sweet and the peanut butter ice cream accompanied this perfectly.

The restaurant's attention to detail, flavours of the cuisine and service were absolutely impeccable. I would highly recommend the Avenue as a great place for a date, business meeting or special dinner with friends.
