Inspired by Mykonos, deep in the centre of Mayfair, lies Onima; Mediterranean-Asian restaurant, bar, private members' club and roof terrace all within one, five-story building.
Designed by leading Greek interior designers Archset, the ground-floor restaurant is stylish and softy-lit, with luxurious velvet furniture and is absolutely beautiful. The most striking feature in the room is the stunning bronzed bar, which sits at the heart of the restaurant.
The Greek influences were apparent in the cocktail menu, a Callisto, a Greek Mythological Goddess was the cocktail we opted to start with- a blend of Blanco tequila, passion-fruit, Otto’s vermouth and pineapple. This was very sweet and delicious. We were served various Mediterranean breads alongside our cocktails.
The food was a mixture of Mediterranean dishes with Asian influences, and absolutely amazing! For starters we had Josper grilled octopus with Mediterranean salsa, which was filling and incredible. Our mains were just as great, I opted for Scottish lobster tagliolini with cherry tomatoes. The portion size was very generous, the lobster was whole, the ribbon-like tagliolini was really soft and the cherry tomatoes complimented the dish. This was delicious. As for pudding we had the Chocolate cookies semifreddo with caramel sauce, the mixture of textures and flavor made for a very sweet and appealing dessert.
After dinner, the music got a little louder and the DJ played some well-known music. The atmosphere was unbelievable, everyone was in high spirits and having a fantastic time. It was a great way to end a fabulous meal.
Anima is now one of my favourite restaurants in London. The prices are expensive but well worth it and this is certainly reflected in the quality of the food. Onima is a fantastic venue for a meal with a group of friends, but equally a great venue for a swanky date. I would recommend to anyone looking for delicious food, an upbeat atmosphere and fabulous service.
